VARISEAL Sealer
431-4602 Variseal® HS Pre-Cat Clear Sealer
Product Codes:

431-4602

Surface Preparation:

Wood substrate should be sanded with 120, 150 or 180 grit paper prior to staining or coating. Stain system under acid containing coatings should be acid stable. AkzoNobel recommends using 825-90XX, 825-91XX Promatch® C-Mix Stains or 890-85XX Promatch Dye Stains.

General Information:

Agitate material thoroughly before use.  Variseal HS must be agitated thoroughly at all times to ensure product consistency.

Apply one or two coats at 3-5 mils wet and allow 30-45 minutes to dry at 68°F prior to sanding and applying next coating. Sand with 280/320 grit paper before topcoating or recoating and ensure next coat is applied within eight hours of sanding.

This product dries rapidly, powders very well and seals the substrate preparing it for the appropriate topcoat.

Variseal HS must not be polluted with oil, varnish or the like and must not be sanded with steel wool between the coats.  Variseal HS must not be used nor dried at temperatures below 64°F (18°C) or relative air humidity above 65%.  During hardening, the sealer must not be exposed to ammonia vapors. Ammonia cleaners should not be used for cleaning the finished surface.  This may accelerate discoloration.

The maximum film build of Variseal HS should not exceed 2 mils dry. Maximum film build of total coating system must not exceed 4 mils dry.

These products are designed for industrial use only. AkzoNobel views safety as a top priority. Please refer to Material Safety Data Sheet for information on the safe use of this product.

Dry times are greatly affected by film build, porosity of substrate, air movement as well as heat and humidity. Temperatures are based on actual board temperature. This may vary depending on length of time for boards to reach these temperatures. Minimum curing temperatures of 64°F/18°C must be maintained throughout the curing cycle to achieve the film integrity as stated in product features.
